Colm Connaughton is currently an associate professor and RCUK Academic Fellow (Mathematics and Complexity) at the Warwick Mathematics Institute. His appointment is joint with the Warwick Centre for Complexity Science where he is the MSc course coordinator for the Complexity Science Doctoral Training Centre.
He joined the University of Warwick in November 2007 having previously held fixed term postdoctoral positions at the Ecole Normale Superieur in Paris and the Centre for Nonlinear Studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
His main research interests are in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, in particular statistical theories of wave and hydrodynamic turbulence, kinetic theory of many-body systems and the role of fluctuations in interacting particle systems. His research usually involves a blend of numerical and analytic methods and is funded for the coming years (2011-2012) by the EPSRC. In recent years, he has published his research in Physical Review Letters, Physical Review E, the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, the Journal of Statistical Physics and Physica D.
He is keenly interested in interdisciplinary mathematical research and is currently the deputy director of the Mathematical Interdisciplinary Research at Warwick (MIR@W) programme.
